2.2.2 PROJECT PROFILE

EAST BORDERLAND
COMMUNITY HOUSING INC.
(Charitable #86021 1291RR000)

East Borderland Community Housing Inc. has been established to fund, build and operate multi-unit seniors’ housing for the residents of the RM of Piney and the Communities of Moose Lake and Buffalo Point, Manitoba.

East Borderland Phase III is a unique housing model that will serve the aging population within the small communities in Southeastern Manitoba.

The entire project is composed of 12 personal care beds, 8 supportive units and 15 elderly person’s housing units.

East Borderland Community Housing Inc. has taken responsibility for funding, constructing, and operating the Elderly Person’ Housing (EPH). The EPH part of the project is estimated to cost approximately $2.2 million.

The supporting organizations are: East Borderland Community Housing Inc., RM of Piney, Regional Health Authority, Manitoba Health and Manitoba Housing.

WHY THE NEED?

1. Currently, seniors requiring PCH placements or supportive housing must leave the area.
2. Over 20% of area residents are age 65+ compared to 13% provincially.
3. Nearly 40% of our seniors live alone.
4. Many seniors choose to live at risk when health fails in order to remain in their familiar environment.
5. Waiting lists for PCH and Senior Housing admission have lengthened substantially.
6. Existing seniors’ housing does not offer the services or amenities required by seniors.

Senior Housing is one of the priority health needs in the
RM of Piney, Buffalo Point, and Moose Lake Communities.

OUR SENIORS NEED HOUSING TO REMAIN
HEALTHY IN THEIR HOME AREA.

According to Stats Canada the RM of Piney is socio-economically depressed.
Average household earnings are $29,075 per year. All the required funds cannot
be raised locally. We need your help!
